Mary has been an educator in Minnesota Public Schools since 1985, with emphases in vocational education, writing curriculum and coordinating grant initiatives to provide opportunity for youth in career exploration, entrepreneurship, apprenticeship, word-based learning, and post-secondary planning.
Mary’s work with families and youth issues in the public school setting spawned her interest in family therapy. Her clinical experiences in family issues included the Bridge for Runaway Youth and Freeport West Inc., both located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Connecting individuals and families with community resources and support has been a vital aspect of Mary's work in both educational and clinical settings.
Experience with treatment for adolescents with dual diagnoses of chemical dependency and severe and persistent mental illness in a day treatment setting, reinforces Mary’s position that Professional School Counselors have a responsibility to address the academic, personal/social, and career preparation needs of all youths.
In 2004, Mary founded Resilience Counseling in Chaska, Minnesota, a private psychotherapy practice which serves individuals, couples, and families. It also provides treatment and family therapy for problem gamblers. Mary's clinical modality incorporates a strength-based approach with Individual Psychology.
