Paula Hemming, M.A. has been on the faculty of the Adler Graduate School (AGS) in Richfield, Minnesota since 1999. She is currently an Core Faculty member as well as the Coordinator of the Personal and Professional Life Coaching Training Series offered at AGS. Paula trains master's level psychology students and professionals from the community in life coaching skills and also supervises their 50-hour applied coaching experience.
Paula has a practical approach to teaching that comes alive with examples, demonstrations, and opportunities to practice life coaching skills as evidenced by these comments from some of her students:
"I enjoyed the opportunity to experience the most joyful, exciting learning I have ever had."
"I really liked the live demonstrations and the access to resources. The acknowledgement and feedback about my skills as a coach were very empowering. I have gained courage as a person and as a coach."
"Coaches training enhanced my confidence and skill. I appreciated being encouraged/pushed to do uncomfortable skill building and recognizing I could do it. I now take more risks and ask for what I need."
Prior to her coaching and teaching career Paula spent over 10 years working in the mental health field. She was the director of a non-profit community support program which served culturally diverse and severely mentally ill adults and their families. She utilized an Adlerian approach in building her counseling and outreach teams which helped to develop a healing community for members of the program. During this same time Paula served other agencies as a consultant, developing and facilitating team-building retreats and workshops. She also provided supervision, consultation and training for managers and team leaders.
Paula is the founder of Relationship Champions, a coaching service for couples and families. She has been in private practice as a personal and professional life coach since 2000, coaching individuals, couples, and professionals who seek greater joy and mastery in their relationships and work. She also coaches managers, team leaders and supervisors in the helping professions. Paula facilitates coaching skills training groups and provides field supervision for life coaches.
Paula writes curricula, life coaching skills materials and presents workshops and seminars. She is a sought-after speaker in the community for her take on both Life Coaching and Adlerian Psychology and is a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Psychology and has represented coaching in interviews on Minnesota Public Radio
