Adler Graduate School Practical Psychology Inspiring Change

"Man is a social being. Expressed differently: The human being and all his capabilities and forms of expression are inseparably linked to the existence of others, just as he is linked to cosmic facts and to the demands of this earth." --Alfred Adler

The AGS Internship Experience

About the Internship Experience

Adlerian Sites | Non-Adlerian Sites | About Internship Experience | Art Therapy Sites

It is the belief of the School that equal to one's academic experience is the immediate and effective application of theoretical knowledge in practice. Thus, each student is required to be involved, as part of his or her degree program, in an integrating clinical Internship.

An Internship site is defined by AGS as any place where theoretical learning maybe applied in a supervised environment. The Internship portion of the program consists of 6 credits. Students are required to take 7 terms (5 credits) of Internship, a 1 credit Graduate Internship, which can occur any time in the second year.

The student must log all hours and attend the internship class at AGS. Grading is Pass/Fail and is based on a satisfactory evaluation from the site supervisor, logging at least the minimum number of required hours on site, completing all class assignments and attending Internship  and Advanced Internship classes.

The Graduate Internship, Class 598, consists of receiving individual evaluation of a client case over multiple sessions to advise the student and evaluate therapeutic skills as the client moves to achieve treatment goals. The instructor may come to the internship site and observe the student with a client or a series of sessions may be taped and reviewed by the student and the instructor.

"I like that AGS encourages its students to start
internships right away. It is a very practical approach."
