The Influence of the Media on Adolescents' Social and Emotional Development: Examining Adler's Concepts of Self Image and Striving for Significance

Media and its influence are evident daily in everyone‘s lives. Adolescents in particular are significantly influenced by the media. This paper investigates the effect media has on adolescent social and emotional development. The Adlerian concepts of the cognitive schema and striving for significance are examined relative to adolescent development and the media‘s portrayal of the ideal life.
