The Impact of Internet Based Social Network Technology on Adolescent Development

Many adolescents around the world have increased access to the internet and social network technology. Adolescents are described by Erikson and Havighurst to be developmentally addressing questions of identity and relationships. The literature shows internet communication can influence identity and social relationships. Adlerian life tasks were used to identify and organize the influences of social networking technology on adolescent subjects. Awareness of adolescent social network usage can provide information to parents, educators and therapists.
