This course is an introduction to the philosophy and psychology formulated and practiced by Alfred Adler and Adlerians around the world. Adler was the father of many aspects of modern psychology and his foundations are found in many psychological approaches used today. Adler shares the stage as a colleague of Freud and Jung in being a major influence in what modern psychology has become. His concepts of encouragement, purpose, cooperation, social interest, and courage for living are perhaps even more timely now than when he first presented them. This course explores human development from birth and how we form our individual views of life which guide how we live. Students learn the core philosophies and basic concepts and begin to notice their impact in daily living. They also begin an exploration of their own belief systems.
