Master’s Degree Applicants

All applicants seeking a master’s degree are expected to submit the following materials for a complete application file by the application deadline.

  • Complete your online application.
  • Submit a 500-word personal statement using the prompt provided.
  • Master’s degree applicants wishing to add the Expressive Arts Therapy specialty to their degree must also submit a 300-word essay detailing their experience with expressive arts and how they hope to integrate expressive arts therapies into their future practice.
  • Submit official transcripts indicating the degree conferred. You may use this transcript request form if required by your institution.
  • One letter of recommendation, either professional or academic, by someone who has known you for at least 6 months, but ideally more than one year. (Non-degree seeking students are exempt)

Admission Personal Statement Guidelines

All applicants must submit a minimum 500-word personal statement. Non-degree-seeking applicants must also indicate which course(s) you intend to register for within your personal statement. Our course listing can be found here on the AGS website. (course offerings can vary by term and we can never guarantee a course will be offered however we typically offer the same courses in each term).**

This personal statement serves as both a sample of your writing and a statement of your personal or professional experience with social justice. Please address all of the following writing prompts (if you are reapplying, please provide a new personal statement):

  1. In your own words, think of a time when you either witnessed a social injustice or was subjected to a social injustice. Please describe the circumstances and how you handled or wish you had handled the incident. Please keep your response to a minimum of 500 words.

***If you are adding a specialty in EXAT, please submit a 300-word personal statement detailing your experience with expressive arts and how you hope to integrate expressive arts therapies into your future practice.

Certificate Program Applicants

All applicants seeking a certificate program or non-degree seeking students are expected to submit the following materials for a complete application file by the application deadline.

Non-Degree/Student-at-Large Applicants

  • Complete your online application.
  • Submit a short statement detailing your reason for taking classes as a student-at-large and which course(s) you intend to take.
  • Submit official transcripts indicating the degree conferred. You may use this transcript request form if required by your institution.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.

Application Process

Once all portions of your application have been submitted, your application will be reviewed by the admissions staff, and you will be contacted to schedule a required admissions interview. Additional information will be gathered as needed. An admissions decision will be made, and you will be informed via email.

All students (Master’s, Certificate, and Non-Degree) may only begin classes if, by New Student Orientation, they have submitted the following:

  • A completed Intent to Enroll form
  • Tuition Agreement form
