Will this degree allow me to apply for a license in my home state?

Yes, it will. We are CACREP accredited. This accreditation is “portable” which means if you graduate with a master’s degree from Adler, you can take the licensing examine in all states.

Does Adler help with finding internship sites?

We do not “place” students at a site, but we do give you the tools to find a site on your own. You will take 930 Introduction to Field Experience. This class sets you up for success when looking for a site.

Do I get licensed through this program?

To apply for a license, you first need to earn the credential. Once you have completed the master’s degree or certificate you will contact the licensing board in your home state for information on registering for the licensing exam.

What do I do after the degree?

You will begin your post-graduate hours. The post grad hours vary depending on the program completed.

How much does this cost/can I use financial aid?

For the 2026-27 academic year tuition is $779 per credit. A typical class is 3 credits; the average student takes 6 credits a semester. Tuition for the year is approximately $18696. We do offer financial aid to those who qualify. We have limited scholarship opportunities, but we do offer the Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan and the Grad Plus Loan to those who still qualify.

Can I attend the program part-time?

Yes – in fact the program is scheduled for working adults. The majority of our students attend part-time. Classes are offered online in the evenings.

What does fully online mean?

Our courses are only offered online. However, most of our classes are taught synchronously over Zoom. This is very much like attending classes in person. You can interact with the professor and other students as though you are in a physical classroom. If you want a program where you can login to a virtual classroom at any time of the day or night, this is not that format. We do offer a limited number of asynchronous courses each semester.

Can I pursue both CMHC and MCFC programs? What’s the difference/what’s better?

We do not recommend that you complete both programs. There is no advantage to having a license in each program. The Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling program prepares you to work within systems, like a family system; Clinical Mental Health Counseling focuses more on the individual.

Can I start whenever since it’s fully online?

We offer admission three times a year: in October, January and April.

Do people work while enrolled in the program?

Yes – most students work fulltime during the day because our classes begin at 6:15pm central time.
